Rainwater floods govt school
Kharar, August 24 For more than last one month, students have no other option but to sit amid sewer water and mosquitoes. Even the stray cattle have made the area their habitat with more than 80 such animals grazing on the land daily. In absence of a boundary wall, these cattle find their way inside the school endangering the children and teacher. The school was upgraded last year under a special scheme of the government. “Under this scheme, we have only got funds for constructing building. The boundary wall construction lies in second phase, for which funds are yet to be issued,” said the education authorities at Mohali. Parents of the students said the situation had grown worse with rains. Mosquitoes do not spare anyone and at times, children come home with large boils on their skin. “We have even apprised teachers of the problem. But they are afraid of saying anything as they have been newly appointed,” said a student. The sewer water and rain-water of the village floods the area. As per the village sarpanch Gurdayal Singh, earlier last year in June, a private coloniser had obstructed natural flow of rain-water of seven other villages, including Sante Majra. The district administration had ordered the coloniser to clear the obstruction. “The water then started flowing in to our fields. Farmers created mounds of earth to obstruct water from entering in to their fields and the water found way in to that school,” he said. Kharar SDM Rajiv Kumar Gupta said the widening of Kharar-Landran road had been under way. “A PWD drain runs on the sides of the highway. Due to some reason, it had got choked. I have directed the SDO concerned to sort it out as soon as possible,” Gupta added. |
