Mr Governor, where are dog pounds?
Chandigarh, August 17
If UT administrator- cum-Governor, SF Rodrigues, is to be believed, the city has two dog pounds to manage sick and stray dogs, including one managed by an NGO. However, it is far away from truth as according to MC sources the proposal for the first dog pound has been hanging fire for the past eight years for want of space. The proposal for a dog pound at Dhanas was mooted several years ago. The site was, however, found inappropriate as it had a school and a residential area nearby.

Councillor pulls out gun  at MC meeting

Unruly scenes were witnessed at the monthly meeting of the Municipal Committee wherein councillors hit each other using chairs and one of the councillors even took out his licensed revolver to threaten others.

Family members of Balwinder Singh (inset) mourn his death at Gobind Nagar in Patiala Nothing could be worse than a son’s death for a family that was happy after he married an NRI woman from the US. Balwinder Singh (28) died in California on July 28 under mysterious circumstances, but his family, based at Gobind Nagar, was informed only a day later. Auto drivers gather at the office of the STA in Sector 18 to lodge their protest in Chandigarh A large number of autorickshaws went off road for the second day today following the unavailability of LPG gas. Though the UT administration has announced a ban on all petrol and diesel-run autos in the city from September 1, the operators are hoping that the poor backup of LPG gas may lead the administration to reconsider the deadline.

The residents of many villages in the district are bound to face the hardships as the weak monsoon in the country has affected the region adversely, leaving 117 water bodies completely dry. Two arrested for snatching

Two youngsters, including a juvenile, were caught red handed while snatching a chain and a mobile phone in Sector 27 here this afternoon. Apart from this, two incidents of snatching were reported from various parts of the city in the past 24 hours.

Two unidentified men in their mid-thirties were found dead in different parts of the city today. According to the police, a man was found dead in a park in Sector 35 this afternoon.

Woman suffers burns; mother-in-law booked
Chandigarh, August 17
Aarti, a four-month-pregnant woman, sustained burns allegedly while cooking at her residence in Bank Colony, Mani Majra, here this morning. She suffered 40 per cent burns. According to victim’s statement given to the police, she told her mother-in-law Nirmala about LPG leak in the kitchen, but the latter directed her to keep cooking.
