Srinagar, July 27 However, there were no such blues today as heavy traffic plied amidst usual chaos and shops remained opened throughout the day, much to the relief of the common man. Officials said they relaxed the security measures with the inauguration of new Assembly complex, which would see its first full-fledged session. The completion of new complex was one of the achievements of previous Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as the project had been hanging fire since the days Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Though the new complex is close to the old complex, its secure topography has allowed the government to do away many unpleasant exercises. Hundreds of shops around Budshah bridge, a commercial hub, would remain closed for weeks when the Assembly would be in session as the security apparatus took no risk. “We would suffer huge damages and beginning of Assembly sessions was bad news for us,” Mohammad Asrar, a dry fruits trader, told The Tribune. Traffic was also not allowed on the main road, forcing the people to take a long detour and people rushing to Srinagar for emergency purposes like medical treatment suffered enormously. |
