Security agencies have also placed bomb disposal squads, spotters and dog squads, and anti-sabotage teams in different parts of the hotel. “Many commandos and intelligence officials will be in plain clothes and the hotel security staff have been briefed. The instructions from security agencies have been passed on to them,” said a Delhi police source. From the Indian side, around 2,500 police and intelligence personnel were involved in security arrangements for Clinton and the place and areas she would be crossing or travelling to are being scrutinised. You can still make it to DU
New Delhi, July 18 According to sources in the university administration, colleges would not close admissions till all their seats are filled. Confirming the news, a university administration official said admissions were still open and colleges would device mechanisms to fill their seats. “Most colleges in north campus have closed admissions as their seats have been filled. However, certain colleges may admit some more students,” said Gurpreet Tuteja, deputy dean, DU. The only guideline that colleges must follow is not to compromise on merit. “Colleges have to see to it that merit is not compromised in the process of enrolling more students. Each college administration has to come out with mechanisms so that the best candidates get admission,” said Tuteja. Meanwhile, the university administration has said the situation is far better than the last year, even in terms of seats reserved for OBC candidates. Last year, nearly 15 per cent seats were lying vacant even in north campus colleges like Hindu. It has been observed that college principals are taking decisions regarding admission deadlines. The college principals have admitted students on “compassionate grounds” even after the formal admission process got over. Besides, DU gives its vice-chancellor the power to take admissions “with condonation.” This year the last date for admissions “with condonation” is October 16. For general category students, colleges have been asked to wind up the admission process latest by August 17. Besides, the university has decided to convert vacant OBC seats into general category seats by August 15.
