Banks told to meet security norms by month end
Dehradun, January 14
Taking cognisance of yesterday’s theft at the State Bank of India, Saharanpur Chowk branch, District Magistrate Amit Singh Negi has issued strict directions to the officials of various banks to ensure proper security arrangements in the banks by the end of this month. Negi has instructed district’s leading bank PNB to make sure that elaborate security arrangements are made in all the branches of various banks in Dehradun.

Bose associate Col Pritam dead
Dehradun, January 14
After battling for life for days, Col Pritam Singh of the Indian National Army (INA) passed away today. The end came at 1 am at his residence in Doiwala near Dehradun. Col Pritam Singh was admitted to the Himalayan Institute Hospital, Jolly Grant, following a heart attack. Last evening, he was taken home for Lohri.

Prof GD Agarwal, noted environmentalist, who sat on an indefinite fast on the banks of the Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi in June last year, demanding a ban on hydro-electric projects between the Gangotri and Uttarkashi, today resumed his fast at the Hindu Mahasabha office near Birla Mandir in New Delhi.

Work on Lachhiwala rly over-bridge begins

As the first step towards execution of the much awaited railway over-bridge (ROB) at Lachhiwala, work on its alignment has got under way. The multi-crore project, which will replace the century-old railway underpass, is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

MRI unit sans staff

A Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) unit, costing several crore, is lying unused at the Doon Hosptial due to the shortage of medical staff, forcing patients to get the scan done from private diagnostic centers.
