Bloody clash on PU campus, again
SOPU chief among five booked

Student violence raised its ugly head once again on Panjab University campus here, when two groups of students assaulted each other in a brawl that lasted for over half-an-hour this afternoon. The clash took place in full public view at Students’ Centre immediately after lunch hour.

Security checks fail the test
Chandigarh, October 22
Tall claims of Panjab University authorities regarding the strengthening of university security arrangements fell flat today when a group of students, including some outsiders, indulged in a brawl at the Students’ Centre right in the heart of the campus. The incident took place in broad daylight at the time when the Students’ Centre is most crowded.

10 years down a lot of water has flown...as dues pile up
Mohali, October 22
The failure of GMADA authorities to regularise 10-year-old illegal water connections occupied by senior officials has resulted in arrears to the tune of over Rs 1 lakh piling up. The two one-kanal houses (3501 and 3502) in Sector 52 were occupied over the past more than eight years by officials holding posts ranging from additional chief administrator (GMADA) , SDM, chief engineer (GMADA) and SSP. However, none of them bothered to inquire why bills for the consumption of water were not being received by them.

In fact, taking care of the religious sentiments of the people, the Chandigarh Administration had developed this lake for performing religious rituals besides giving a place for relaxation to the residents of the southern sectors.

Youth hangs himself to death

A 21-year-old resident of Ravindra Enclave, Baltana, here allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan of his house last night. The victim, Ajay Kumar, was under depression and not keeping well from past two months.

Minor scuffle between students reaches police
Chandigarh, October 22
A scuffle between two students of DAV, Sector 8, today reached the police with one of them filing a DDR against the other at the Sector 3 police station. A heated argument on sports field took an ugly turn with both the boys coming to blows and one of them, a resident of Indira colony, Manimajra, receiving head injuries.
