Flyover opened for trial: After a long wait, one section of the Zirakpur flyover was opened for traffic moving from Delhi to Chandigarh on Monday. An official of the NHAI said it was a trial run and the formal inauguration of the flyover would be done in the coming days. Site inspection: The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has proposed a site in Sector 84 for the district administrative and judicial complex. The site was inspected by judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Surya Kant. Earlier, there was a proposal to set up the complex at Sanetta village However, it was rejected after a string of protests by residents and lawyers. The district administration has also proposed sites at Badmajra and Balongi villages.

Doc’s murder: Shooters held: The police on Monday arrested the prime accused, who had allegedly shot dead Dr D.S. Chaudhary here on September 22. According to the police, a special team investigating the murder case arrested Rakesh and Anil from Mittathal village. Anil had allegedly killed the doctor at his private hospital when he was attending patients. The police has so far arrested four accused in the case.

Truck driver found murdered: A truck driver hailing from Bigowa village in Bhiwani district, who was abducted along with his vehicle on Friday from Sampla town, was found murdered near Naya Banns village. His body, bearing wounds inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon, was found from the Pakasma drain near the village on Sunday, police sources here said. The truck was yet to be traced. The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep. The police has registered a case of abduction and murder in this connection and have started investigations. YAMUNANAGAR

Dhumal to dedicate Sanjauli-Dhalli bypass: Public works minister Thakur Gulab Singh said here on Monday that Chief Minister P.K. Dhumal would dedicate the double-lane Sanjauli-Dhalli bypass on October 17 to facilitate the people of Shimla and Kinnaur districts, especially, the fruit growers. Thakur said Rs 12 crore project would also facilitate the tourists visiting places like Narkanda, Kufri, Naldehra and Mashobra. It would also decongest the road passing through the Sanjauli market, he added.

Heroin seized: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered heroin worth Rs 5 crore from his possession in Doda district. On receiving information, the police laid down a special nakka at Dandi Bypass in Bhaderwah town following reports of narcotics smuggling, sources said. However, Mohd
Shaff, resident of Chanyas, was arrested on the spot and two packets of heroin each weighing 700 gm were recovered from him, the sources added. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. RAJOURI
Student hurt in mishap: Aftab Ahmed of Surankote, a third-semester student of Masters in Financial Management course, was critically injured whereas his junior Ibrar suffered minor injuries on Monday after their motor bike was hit by an over speeding vehicle near Dhanore Ghursiyaan. The driver of the vehicle managed to flee. Aftab was rushed to the district hospital but was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. A case has been registered. Girl crushed to death: Minor nomad girl Abida Kousar (10) of Kanara in the Nowshera area was crushed to death by an army vehicle in the Kakoda area of Manjakote tehsil on Sunday.
Police sources said Abida was accompanying her parents who were on their way to the plains along with their cattle when the accident occurred. The army vehicle belonged to 120 Brigade posted in the Bhimber Gali area near
Kakoda. The driver fled from the spot after the tragedy. A case has been registered. Srinagar
KAS transfers: The government has ordered the transfer and posting of a number of KAS and other officers in the administration, an official spokesman said here. Abdul Rahid War, deputy director, hospitality and protocol, has been transferred as deputy director, estates, Kashmir, while Mufti Fareed-ud-Din, awaiting orders of adjustment in the J&K Tourism Development Corporation on his appointment to the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS), has been recalled and posted as GM, DIC, Budgam, against an available vacancy. 1 killed in mishap: One person was killed and two others injured in separate road accidents while one body a recovered in the Kashmir valley on Sunday, official sources said. Danish Ahmad Sheikh was hit by a vehicle at Thajiwara in Anantnag district. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. In another incident, a 15-year-old boy was injured when a vehicle hit him at Sheri in Baramulla. Meanwhile, the police found an unconscious person at Balgarden in the city on Sunday. He was taken to nearby SMHS Hospital where he later died.
