Under-weight Goods
Chandigarh, September 26 The forum, headed by Jagroop Singh Mahal, observed: “The packet shows on the wrapper that the weight thereof is 100 gm. The contention of the petitioner is that it is only 70 gm. The petitioner came to this conclusion after getting it weighed from a jeweller and found it to be weighing 78.980 gm. The packet is, therefore, grossly underweight.” The forum observed: “The stamp on the wrapper shows its price as Rs 12 for 100 gm. The company is earning Rs 2.40 on its sale. The packets being underweight is in itself an unfair trade practice, misguiding the consumers that its weight is 100 gm when actually it is only 78.980 gm.” Harjinder stated in the petition that he had purchased 10 packs of biscuits in March. When he was about to open one packet, he was shocked to see it underweight. He verified the weight of the said packet and found the same to be about 70 gm whereas the label on the said packet showed the weight to be 100 gm. It amounted to unfair trade practice. |

Meeting with ICC chief big leap for ICL: Kapil
Chandigarh, September 26 Talking to this correspondent over phone, Kapil said, “This is good step of the ICC and we are looking forward to it with positive frame of mind.” When asked whether the ICL management saw the initiative as a step towards inclusion of the league in the main cricketing
body, Kapil said it was not appropriate to comment on it at the moment. “But definitely, it is a big development as the ICC president David Morgan has agreed to meet us on the issue of ICL. I am very happy with the development. If everything goes in right direction, it will be a big success for the ICL and the game as well,” said Kapil. The former Indian skipper also maintained that they had not chalked out any special agenda to be discussed during the meeting. “There is no need to chalk out any special agenda. We have genuine points as we are committed to promote the game as well as the cricketers across the world,” said Kapil, while maintaining that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had created unnecessary controversies with the ICL. “We are doing nothing different from the board. If they are concerned for 10 cricketers, we are here for over 5,000,” he said. On the forthcoming domestic as well as World Series of ICL, Kapil said the league had been progressing according to its plans. “The league is on its way to success, if the recent exodus of players of Bangladesh team and the nod by Sri Lanka board to
allow the ICL players to play in domestic cricket is any indication,” said Kapil, who would be present, along with Subhash Chandra, owner of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, during the meeting with Morgan, scheduled to take place in the first week of October in London. |
