For armed forces, the wait for better deal continues

Civilian government employees now have a reason to cheer over drawing fatter salaries, but for the armed forces the wait continues. The notification for implementation of the revised recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (SPC) does not cover defence personnel.
Fee for new models of vehicles likely
Chandigarh, August 30
The UT State Transport Authority (STA) has proposed a fee that would be levied on every new model of vehicle launched in the city. Depending upon the seating capacity of the vehicle, a fee ranging between Rs 5000 and Rs 10,000 would be charged for every model that comes for approval to the STA.

Drive to sterilise stray dogs

The residents of the city can assure themselves of getting rid of the stray dog menace in the near future as, after some dilly-dallying, the municipal council has decided to take the help of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) in this regard.
Schools rate poor in design

A majority of schools in Chandigarh have architectural flaws. A quick survey of various government schools of the city by this correspondent found that blackboards are not positioned well in classrooms, rooms are not spacious with inadequate light and ventilation and improper water drainage system.

The second counselling of MEd for Panjab University and its affiliated colleges, which was held today, was cancelled today late in the evening. The first counselling was held on August 25.

The much-awaited elections to the Panjab University’s campus students’ council are most likely to take place in the second week of September. Confirming this, Prof Naval
Kishore, dean, students’ welfare, said: “Though we have not yet decided any specific date, we are trying our best to conduct the elections in the second week.”
