A 35-year-old man, Inderjit Singh of Ghora Colony, Colony No 4, died under mysterious circumstances while in the custody of the Industrial Area police here this evening. Following this the residents of the colony vandalised the police station and threw stones at police vehicles. In this melee three mediapersons and one commando were injured.

Dimpy murder case cracked
Rocky, aide held with US army pistol
Chandigarh, July 28
The police today solved the sensational blind murder case of “gangster” Prabhjinder Singh Dimpy with the recovery of .45 bore US Army pistol used in the killing from Jaswinder Singh Rocky, a prime suspect in the case. Dimpy was gunned down outside the Sukhana Lake Club on July 7, 2006, by two unidentified shooters riding a motorcycle.

Crime seems to run in the family of Rocky who was arrested in connection with the murder of Dimpy. Sources in the police said in early 2006, Rocky’s brother, Yadwinder Singh alias Romanjit Singh, a drug-addict, had allegedly shot his father, Mahinder Singh, following an altercation.

The opposition along with the nominated councillors staged a walkout from the municipal corporation House meeting today in protest against the "unparliamentary" language and "objectionable" references made by Congress councillor Ravinder Pal Singh Pali during the debate on the agenda.

Expressing concern over the low-credit flow to weaker sections of the city, he asked all bankers to achieve the national goal of 10 per cent of total advances to the weaker section.

After two consecutive deferments and among unruly scenes, the councillors of Bassi Pathana finally elected the office bearers in a meeting held here today. Defying the dictates of party high command as well as of local MLA Didar Singh Bhatti, the councillors elected Kulbhushan Malhotra, alias Babla, SAD (B) councillor belonging to Lalli group, as their president and Ravinder Rinku as vice-president by majority votes.

Lineman electrocuted

A 42-year-old lineman was electrocuted to death today on National Highway-22, near General Post office here. The police has today failed to arrest the person who had allegedly assaulted The Tribune lensman Vicky Gharu in Phase VIII last evening. The police said a team was sent to Patiala to conduct a raid.

Two drug addicts held for snatchings
