AGA Mess
Amritsar, July 22 From cricketers to non-cricketers, to even bureaucrats, the association reins have changed hands more than often. All this collectively has wreaked havoc not only on the game but on infrastructure and other facilities. But now with former Indian captain and left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi getting the association charge from deputy commissioner KS Pannu, who was also the ex-officio president of the association, the game enthusiasts are hopeful of happy days ahead. Bedi has the crucial task cut of picking up a good team which can manage the nitty-gritty of the game and prepare a comprehensive blue print to revive the enthusiasm of youngsters in the game. Dwelling at length on his plan, the legendary spinner said to Amritsar on the international cricket map he would solicit the support of game’s true lovers. He said the members of the committee have been given a specific task of rebuilding the game from the scratch and come out with the framework to enhance the level of cricket. Bedi said the association would continue to be affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association and would get all possible assistance to run the show. He said the new committee has nothing to do with Indian Cricket League (ICL) and would follow the guidelines of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “The only one-day match played in the city was way back in 1985 between India and New Zealand. The idea is to create infrastructure for hosting big international matches here,” said Bedi. |
