Fire in SBI branch
Mohali, July 16
Fire broke out in the State Bank of India’s branch in the industrial area Phase VII here today. According to reports, the fire was noticed by Hardev Singh , security guard, when he opened the bank at about 9 am. He immediately informed the fire brigade. One fire tender was pressed into service which doused the flames and prevented it from spreading in other parts of the bank.

2 get six months in car-theft case

A local court sentenced Naresh Kumar and Maninder Singh to six months’ imprisonment while Ranjit Bajaj, son of an IAS couple, had been discharged from the case earlier in February 2004 after re-investigation was conducted into the case.

Close on the heels of the UT going without the home secretary for about 107 days, another senior officer, J.S. A conference on law, justice and administration in the state was organised in the mini secretariat by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration, Punjab. Chief parliamentary secretary Harish Rai Dhanda presided over the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, he said corruption was acting as a catalyst for people to break the law. He said if loopholes in the justice system were plugged, more people would be able to get justice.
