Fire in SBI branch
Mohali, July 16
Fire broke out in the State Bank of India’s branch in the industrial area Phase VII here today. According to reports, the fire was noticed by Hardev Singh , security guard, when he opened the bank at about 9 am. He immediately informed the fire brigade. One fire tender was pressed into service which doused the flames and prevented it from spreading in other parts of the bank.

A local court sentenced Naresh Kumar and Maninder Singh to six months’ imprisonment while Ranjit Bajaj, son of an IAS couple, had been discharged from the case earlier in February 2004 after re-investigation was conducted into the case.

Chief parliamentary secretary Harish Rai Dhanda presided over the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, he said corruption was acting as a catalyst for people to break the law.
