Travel agent, accomplices dupe youths of Rs 1 crore
Raikot, July 12
In one of the biggest emigration frauds reported in recent times, a gang led by a Delhi-based travel agent and a ‘Godman’ has duped 50-odd youths of the state of over Rs 1 crore on the pretext of sending them abroad. Most of the youths were of Raikot town.

Poor students still can’t get admissions
Ludhiana, July 12
The tall claims of the state government to provide free education to the poor and needy have fallen flat. Contrary to the claims made recently by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a college convocation here of imparting free education to deserving students, including rural (10 per cent), about 10 meritorious students failed to get admission at the local SCD Government College due to shortage of finances.

Vegetable prices continued to sore this week as well with most items recording 10 per cent to 40 per cent increase. Vegetable sellers attributed the rising trend to shortage in supplies. The existing stocks, too, were getting destroyed that had further contributed to rising prices, they added.

A minor was raped by Taran Kumar, alias Tarni of Acharwal. The Raikot police has registered a case under Sections 376, 366A, 323 of the IPC following a complaint by the victim’s mother.

Braving rain, at least 300 computer teachers representing the Computer Teachers’ Union (Contractual), Punjab, staged a dharna at the Bharat Nagar Chowk and blocked the traffic for more than two hours.

There was a great enthusiasm among students and entrepreneurs in terms of admission and training in School of Agricultural Biotechnology at PAU, said Dr S.S. Gosal, head of the school. Gosal informed that the training was imparted in biotechnology to more than 450 candidates during the last four years.
