Violent incidents marred the Gram Panchayat elections in the border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran. According to sources, the polling has been postponed at five gram panchayats in Tarn Taran district due to lapses on the part of the district administration. Overall 80 per cent polling was reported in Tarn Taran district whereas 70 to 75 percent polling was reported in Amritsar district.

917 MU of power by 2011-12
New Delhi, May 26
The quantum of energy produced in Punjab through new and renewable energy sources will be around 917 million units (MU) by 2011-12, a sizeable 10 per cent contribution to the total power generation in the state. The proposed enhancement of 916.59 MU will come at a tentative investment of Rs 5,156.32 crore.
