Just days ahead of the purposed Pakistan visit by the Indian external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee to discuss the Indo-Pakistan relations, a major incident of ceasefire violation has been reported in this forward area on the international border between the two nations.

Family strangles daughter, lover in Haryana

In yet another incident of honour killing in Haryana, a Jat family allegedly strangled its daughter, who was pregnant, and a local youth from the same community to death early this morning.

Inflation creeps up to 7.61%
New Delhi, May 9
“More administrative steps will be taken as and when necessary,” said the defensive finance minister P Chidambaram, as inflation rose to a 42-month high of 7.61 per cent in the week ended April 26 due to costlier vegetables, fruits ,tea, spices and some manufactured products.

3 foundry workers asphyxiated
Karnal, May 9
Mahabiri mourns the death of her son Satish who died due to asphyxia at a foundry unit near Karnal on Friday.
Three factory workers died due to asphyxia at a local foundry unit after they fell into a tank early this morning. The police said a few workers at Prakash Iron Foundry on Hansi Road were cleaning the outlet when the incident took place.

3,000-cr scholarship scheme approved
New Delhi, May 9
In the first major move towards strengthening secondary education in India, the Centre today approved the ambitious National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship scheme for students from classes IX to XII. Announced last year in the budget speech by union finance minister P. Chidambaram, the scheme seeks to arrest the high dropout rate at secondary-level by offering financial support to economically backward students.
