Aged industrialist, wife shot at
Ludhiana, April 26
An unidentified youth broke into the house of a manufacturer of sewing machine parts in Barrewal Colony early this morning and shot twice at the elderly industrialist and injured his wife with rifle butt before fleeing.

Alert drivers save 2 labourers
Mandi Ahmedgarh, April 26
Villagers and alert operators of two combine harvesters working in fields at Andloo in Raikot subdivision and Kalyan villages in Malerkotla subdivision saved the lives of two farm labourers today. However, legs of both victims were crushed under the combine. In both cases labourers were relaxing in fields when the accident took place.

Burglars broke into a jewellery shop owned by Kuldeep Singh of Issewal and decamped with Rs 6,000 in cash, 200 gms of gold and 3.5 kg silver ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh.

Lawyer booked under SC/ST Act

On the directions of Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes, Bassi Pathana police have registered an FIR against advocate Vikas Sibbe, working at district courts in Fatehgarh Sahib and a resident of Bassi Pathana, under sections 3(1) (10) of SC/ST ( Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

The second convocation and prize distribution function of Punjab Institute of Management & Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh, was held at Kanhaya Lal Bardeja Lions Bhawan here today. The function was presided over by Justice K.C. Puri, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. The convocation started with the lighting of a lamp followed by Saraswati vandana. Mandi Gobindgarh, April 26 The department of business administration of RIMT-IET, here, organised a one-day seminar on "HR issues and challenges in India" yesterday. The seminar was attended by a number of academicians. The physicians association organised a “Neurology Update- 2008.” According to general secretary of the association Dr Vikas Loomba, 86 physicians from the city and surrounding areas attended the camp.

A guest lecture on the “perfusion CT imaging of the brain” was delivered by assistant professor, Wayne State University, Detroit, USA, Dr Rajan Jain.He highlighted the importance of multi-slice CT in the evaluation of stroke patients as early treatment could modify the course of the diseases.
