Boy given electric shocks, dies

Rattan Kumar A factory employee and his accomplice allegedly killed an 11-year-old boy after giving him electric shocks in order to teach his mother a lesson for humiliating him in public over a debt of Rs 5,000.

Six labourers injured in lathicharge

Tension prevailed in Mahavir Colony and Tajpur road areas after the police lathicharged protesting labourers here last day evening. Six labourers were injured.

Dyeing unit owner, foreman booked for negligence

The police has booked the owner of a dyeing factory in which a boiler had burst two days ago, causing injuries to four labourers.

Government plans to revive fish industry

The fish market that has been non-operational for the past nine years. The department of animal husbandry, Punjab, is giving a serious thought to the revival of fish industry in this part of the region. To give a boost to fish farming and to strengthen the marketing network, the government in association with the Fish Farmers Association is keen to revamp the decade-old non-functional fish market in the city.

MC mulls special sewers for dyeing units
Ludhiana, April 23
To save Budda Nullah from toxic effluents from dyeing units, the municipal corporation is thinking of laying a special sewer line along the Tajpur and Tibba roads, connecting the dyeing units with the Jamalpur sewerage treatment plant.

Exservices league rejects pay panel proposals
Ludhiana, April 23
The Indian Exservices League, Punjab and Chandigarh, yesterday rejected the recommendations of the sixth pay commission concerning the Armed Forces and decided to hold dharnas at the district headquarters on April 27 to protest against the recommendations. Stating this, league president Lieut-Col Chanan Singh Dhillon (retd) said the committee was unconstitutional and demanded the scrutiny of recommendations by a parliamentary committee to correct discrepancies.

World Vegetable Centre, Taiwan, Sir Rattan Tata Trust and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will start a joint project for growing “safe vegetables” in net-houses within next five months. The cost of the project is around Rs 5 crore.
