Pension seekers wait at a camp which was later cancelled in view of the election code of conduct in the Amritsar South constituency on Thursday. The announcement of byelection of Amritsar (South), scheduled for May 22, has come as a bolt from the blue for the ruling SAD, which wanted to carry out a number of projects in the city to woo voters.

PCMSA opposes babus manning Health posts

The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) has criticised the Punjab government for appointing a subdivisional-level PCS officer as director, Health Services (social insurance), a post hitherto held by a senior PCMS doctor and demanded his replacement by a senior doctor from the PCMS cadre.

14,000 posts of schoolteacher vacant
Ludhiana, April 17
Though the state government claims having started the recruitment process in schools but 14,000 posts of primary and secondary teacher are still vacant all over the state. The situation is no different in colleges where 500 posts are vacant in government colleges affecting students.

Private players shun markets
Khanna, April 17
Major companies, including Reliance, Cargill and ITC, are abstaining from Punjab grain markets during the ongoing trade in mandis. The main reason cited by the grain market arhtiyas and dealers is the cost of procuring wheat, including bags, labour and freight charges, before marketting the end products, was much higher in Punjab compared to several other places in the country, mainly Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
