Bhattal penetrates Capt’s citadel

Sukhbir waits under tree for 3 hours
Gurdaspur, March 30
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal had to sit under a jamun tree for over 3 hours in a ground adjacent to the Dhariwal woollen mill near here after his chopper failed to turn up. The chopper reportedly had left for Amritsar for refuelling after dropping Badal.

Kansa stream diversion illegal: Mann

The SAD (Amritsar) said yesterday that an inquiry should be ordered to find out how water resources of Punjab have been exploited by the union territory of Chandigarh. Holding that UT had diverted Kansa Nadi illegally as there was no agreement with Punjab, president of the party Simranjit Singh Mann said here that changing the course of a seasonal stream was a flagrant violation of the rights guaranteed to Punjab by the constitution.

Terming the undertrial’s death and alleged scarcity of water as mere excuses by prisoners for indulging in violence, jail superintendent Gursharan Singh Sidhu told The Tribune several prisoners were annoyed with him as availability of drugs in the jail had drastically reduced since he took charge about two and a half months ago.

Three-day mela to boost organic farming begins

NGOs' Nabha Foundation and Kheti Virasat organised a three-day Jaivik Krishi Mela on today to boost organic farming in the state. A large number of farmers and 60 organisations are participating in the event. This is the first initiative of its kind in the state where prominent associations and farmers practising organic farming are participating.

Two migrants were crushed to death by a car driven by a teenager Inderjit Singh, who is matriculation student here today.

Undertrial escapes from hospital
Amritsar, March 30
An undertrial, who was recently caught by the police on the charges of vehicle lifting, reportedly escaped from the civil hospital today evening. According to information, Sonu was caught by the district police on March 27 and remanded to police custody. He was suffering from blockage in urinary bladder. — OC
