The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Punjab and Sind Bank to pay Rs 5,000 to a consumer as compensation for deficiency in service. The consumer, Sohinder Pal Singh of Dugri, was a former employee of the bank.

Students delighted on Day 1 of board exams

Students of Class VIII discuss the paper after appearing for their first board exam in Ludhiana Students came out smiling after taking their first paper of the board exams here today. Students of Classes XII (CBSE) and VIII (Punjab School Education Board) appeared for the examination today.
While the non-medical and medical students of Class XII found their chemistry paper easy, students of Class VIII were delighted at the easy exam pattern.

Sahi gets bail in fake institute case

The additional sessions judge, A.K. Mehta, today granted bail to Pranav Sahi who was arrested on the charges of running an institute without permission from Symbiosis University, Pune.

Vets to be trained on bird flu

The department of veterinary microbiology, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will organise four-day training on bird flu from March 3 to 6.

SBI donates van to NGO

The State Bank of India under its community services banking today donated Rs 4.87 lakh to “Ek Prayas”, NGO, for purchasing a van and physiotherapy  equipment. The NGO is imparting training to mentally challenged children.

3 of family killed in accident

Three members of a Jalandhar-based family were killed and two others injured in an accident that took place near Baho Majra village, a few kms from Khanna, on the National Highway No.1 on Thursday night. The family was returning to Jalandhar from Ambala when their Santro car was hit by another vehicle.

Vigilance nabs ASI 
Ludhiana, March 1
A team of the local Vigilance Bureau yesterday nabbed a Punjab police ASI, posted in the Khanna city police, while he was allegedly taking Rs 2,000 as bribe from an undertrial to facilitate him in a case of narcotics smugglings. ASI Paramjit Singh was arrested and booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Three booked for exploiting girl
Ludhiana, March 1
The Basti Jodhewal police has booked a resident of Meharbaan for allegedly exploiting a girl for several months on the pretext of marrying her. The police said Mohinder Singh of Meharbaan village had made the girl’s video in compromising position so that she might not object to his marrying another girl.

6 GADVASU students booked
