Dead fish in Sukhna waters
Ecologists alarmed

Chandigarh, February 19
The fears of ecologists are coming true. Towards the regulator end of the Sukhna Lake, officials of the UT forest department today found dead fish floating on muddy water. Ecologists attribute the phenomenon to increasing pollution.

Army moves against Lt-Gen in ration scam

The Army has ordered that summary of evidence (SoE) be recorded in the case of former Director General Supplies and Transport Lt-Gen S.K. Sahni for various irregularities allegedly detected in the procurement of dry rations for troops. This indicates that the Army has found substance in some of the charges made out against him during the hearing of charge, which calls for further action.

One injured as jeep hits car

Amardeep Sharma, former president of the Phase-IX industrial area suffered injuries when his Indica was hit by a speeding jeep belonging to Milkfed. The accident took place on the Phase-IX and X dividing road leading to NIPER this morning. Amardeep Sharma’s car was badly damaged when the jeep coming from Chandigarh hit it.

Panjab University students donate blood at the chemical engineering department As part of the ongoing annual festival, ‘Cyanide’, of the department of chemical engineering, a blood donation camp was organised today. Many volunteers came forward and donated blood for the noble cause. Meanwhile, students were also shortlisted for various dance items including giddha, bhangra and others, as part of ‘Jhankaar which is a part of the four-day event.

Shivalik school faces fire
Chandigarh, February 19
Action has been started for withdrawal of recognition and cancellation of allotment of land to Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, here today. It was found that completion certificate from the state office were not taken by the school. Full salaries were not being paid as per CBSE guidelines as no details were shown to the checking team. — TNS

‘Fake’ doc denied anticipatory bail
Chandigarh, February 19
The Punjab and Haryana High Court declined anticipatory bail to Sandeep Sharma who was running a hospital in Sector 20, Panchkula, allegedly in an unauthorised manner and without having any medical qualification to his credit. Justice Harbans Lal had reserved the verdict on Sharma's plea last week at the conclusion of arguments. A case against the petitioner was registered on January 30 at the Sector-5 police station, Panchkula, on the complaint lodged by the civil surgeon. — TNS
