Servant strangulates 2 sisters, flees
Chamkoiyan (Khanna), February 16
Two women aged 75 and 65 years were strangulated late last night by the servant they had hired about a month ago. Their bodies were found in their house by neighbours in the morning.

NRI accused of sexual exploitation
Payal (Khanna), February 16
The district police today issued a Look Out Notice for an NRI who was yesterday booked on charge of sexually exploiting a 16-year-old girl. Mewa Singh, an NRI, was booked after the girl’s father, a resident of Sayian village, in a complaint lodged with the police alleged that Mewa Singh continued to sexually exploit the girl on pretext taking care of her.

Now, traders campaign for one-way traffic
Ludhiana, February 16
The controversial issue of imposing one-way traffic from the National Road to Ghumar Mandi has not only resulted confrontation between the police and shopkeepers but also divided them into two groups. Earlier, one of the groups had employed private guards to regulate the traffic. Now, another group has launched a signature campaign in support of the police for imposing one-way traffic.

Acid thrown on youth for harassing girl
Ludhiana, February 16
The Model Town police suspects that the harassment of a girl at the hands of a married man could have led the two youths to throw acid on him at Durgi late last night.

INTUC: Raise tax slab to Rs 2.5 lakh
Ludhiana, February 16
The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has urged the Union finance minister to raise the minimum amount of income tax slab from the existing Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. The union also urged the minister to exempt senior citizens with income up to Rs 5 lakh from being taxed.

Workers to get training at Glasgow
Shengchun Yao Ludhiana, February 16
Around 12 professionals from the print industry would undergo an eight-week training programme at Glasgow Metropolitan College (GMC) in UK. Shengchun Yao, international director of the college, who was in the city today, said the initiative by NIPA Educational Trust would go a long way in helping professionals associated with the industry upgrade their skills.

Inter-college contest in teaching skills

GMT College of Education organised an inter-college competition in skill-in-teaching and on-the-spot teaching aid preparation under the guidance of principal of the college Dr H S Sidhu, here today. Sixteen colleges participated. Dr P.S Sangha, dean (faculty of education), Panjab University, was the chief guest.
