Bhutia for more exposure on foreign soil
Mohali, February 14 “Our team comprises many young players like Sunil Chetri, Stephan Dias, N.P. Pardeep and Subroto Paul. They need more exposure on foreign soil to do better at international level. Winning Nehru Cup was a big morale booster for us but now we have two major challenges- SAF Championship and AFC Champions Cup- this year”, said Bhutia while talking to media at Sector 69 residence of his team-mate Sanjeev Maria. It was a courtesy call by the whole Mohun Bagan team being led by Bhutia, which turned up at Maria’s house to look him up. The city-based international football player got his knee operated as his ligament was torn during practise session in December last year. The team was on his way to Ludhiana, where it would take on JCT, Phagwara team, in the ongoing ONGC I-League 2007-08 at Guru Nanak Stadium on February 16. The numero uno was upset over the fact that there are only few opportunities for the team to play together. “The players get a chance to play together only in tournaments or the camps, being held only before the tournaments. Otherwise, we all play separately for our clubs for the whole time. During every tournament, we have to restart the whole process of gelling all over again, which is not a good thing for any team”, said Bhutia. When asked about his future course of action, the 32 year-old forward replied that he would be in the international arena as far as his health allowed. “I still feel fresh, both physically and mentally. As far as I enjoy the game, I will remain in action on the field”, said Bhutia. |

ESIC hospitals opened for general public: DG
Chandigarh, February 14 In fact, taking this partnership to the new level, the ESIC has decided to throw open its 21 state-of-the-art hospitals in the country to the general public. A decision to this effect had already been taken by the ESIC board and the Central government would soon notify this decision, ESIC director-general Prabhat C Chaturvedi, told The Tribune here today. Chaturvedi said over the years it had been observed that the facilities at several ESI hospitals, including Kanpur and Nagpur, were not being property utilised in the wake of decreased number of industrial workers following closure of the industrial units. The opening of the ESI hospitals for the general public would go a long way in providing better healthcare both to the beneficiaries and the non-beneficiaries besides upgradation of the existing facilities, he hoped. On the ambitious project of the computerisation of the corporation, Chaturvedi informed that over 1 crore beneficiaries would get new smart cards over a period of three years. The unique card would have all information about the employee, including his health status, and this would prove to be a boon in case the employee changed the jobs. The director-general said with a view to make the dispute-redressal system ‘hassle-free’, the central government was in the process of amending the ESI Act. As per the amendment, a provision for appeal within the department was being created under which the department and employers could sort out their problems, Chaturvedi informed. Currently, there was no dispute-redressal mechanism and a substantial number of cases ended up in the courts. |
