Demolition squad sent packing

Amid high drama, slum dwellers of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar today forced a demolition squad of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust to return here today. Following an order of the PSHRC to the LIT to clear jhuggis from parks in the G and F blocks of SBS Nagar, the squad came back after telling them to clear the parks by February 19.

Student’s spat with conductor costs youth his life

Supporting a student in a dispute with a conductor of a private bus cost a youth his life. Gurmukh Singh (20) of Mushkabad in Ludhiana district succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Samrala last evening.

Kamaljit Singh, alias Kamal of Sodhiwal and Mohan Singh of Manuke, entered the house of Nirmal Singh of Sodhiwal, detained and beat him with stick. The Sidhwan Bet police has registered a case under Sections 308,323,458, 342 and 34 of the IPC.Kamal was admitted to the Sidhwan Bet civil hospital. An old enmity is said to be the reason behind the quarrel.
