Veteran SAD leader Kuldip Singh Wadala has termed the delimitation commission’s decision of reserving both Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur parliamentary seats as an injustice with the politicians of the Doaba region.

After thrashing Orissa 7-2 in the ongoing 55th Rakshak Senior National Women Hockey Championship at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here on Sunday, Arjuna awardee and Haryana skipper Pritam Siwach said, “I am looking forward to make a place for myself in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and continue my winning spree.” While talking to The Tribune, she said, “I started playing hockey at the age of 13. At a time when most of my classmates were studying, luckily I had chosen the game as my vocation. There has been no looking back since then.”

His physique has helped him in making an identity. Though he is barely 18 years old, he has already pocketed many trophies and medals at both the district and state levels. Karan Chauhan, who is studying in class XII at St Soldier Divine Public School and recently won the second prize in Mr Jalandhar bodybuilding contest organised by the Jalandhar Amateur Bodybuilding Association, is a promising bodybuilder.

Cops bust pirated CDs racket; one held

The police claimed to have arrested the kingpin of a gang that was reportedly involved in the business of pirated and blue DVDs in the city.

CT’s junior wing shows kite-flying skills

The students of class I, II and III of CT Public School welcomed Basant by flying kites on the campus. Kites of various shapes, sizes and shades adorned the sky. Principal Lakhvinder Kaur also joined the kids and told them about the significance of Basant. She said the students should learn a lesson from nature that change is part of life and one must be happy in all circumstances.

Two Punjabi singers Sukhshinder Shinda and England-based lyricist Jhalman Singh Dhanda were honoured jointly by the Punjabi Kala and Sahit Kendra and a monthly Punjabi literary magazine Darpan here on Monday.

There is a good news for foodies in the city. A popular chain of restaurants, Hot Millions is opening its outlet at Chhoti Baradari on Garha Road here.

2 shops sealed
Jalandhar, February 5
The municipal corporation sealed two shops here today since the owner had failed to deposit the house tax dues in time. The two shops belonged to Gurmukh Singh the in Ladhewali area who had been selling grocery items there. MC assistant commissioner D.P. Bhardwaj said the proprietor owed Rs 1.07 lakh as house tax to the MC.
