Setting a record of sorts, traffic cops challaned nearly 1,600 violators in the Feroze Gandhi market here in the last one month. As per rough estimates, total revenue generated was around Rs 16 lakhs. Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Inter-state Bus Terminus, Ludhiana, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal on January 11, 2008. To make the function successful, district transport office has started "requesting" the transporters of Ludhiana, Jagraon, Raikot and nearby areas to provide their buses and trucks.

Jagdev Singh Jassowal, a legendry figure in the world of Punjabi culture, today gave a clarion call to the people to create a mass movement against social evils of female foeticide and drug addiction in the wake of skewed sex ratio in the state and increasing menace of drug dependence among the youth.

Jaggery samples fail test

As many as six out of total 11 samples of gur (jaggery) taken from different places in the district by field staff of the health department have failed the test at government laboratory.

GADVASU organised IInd Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) programme on “Diagnosis of Brucellosis” from January 2 to 5 under the aegis of the Veterinary Council of India. The programme was planned to give hands-on-training to the veterinary officers so that the diagnosis of Brucellosis could be carried out at the field-level.

Undisclosed income of Rs 3.82 crore detected
Ludhiana, January 9
The IT department has detected undisclosed income of more than Rs 3.82 crore following surveys it conducted this month. According to officials, Rs 1.50 crore was detected from two assessees in Khanna, Rs 1.15 crore in two cases in Ludhiana and another Rs 1.71 crore in Moga.

Mercury rises despite drizzle

The intermittent drizzle that started early in the morning on Tuesday continued till late this morning even though minimum temperature was recorded a little higher at 12.8 degree today as against 9.1 degree Celsius yesterday. During the past 24 hours, the city had a total rainfall of 8 mm with relative humidity at 98 and 75 per cent in the morning and evening.
