Cabinet nod to law on printing of Birs

The Punjab Cabinet today approved the law for prevention of printing, publication, storage, distribution and sale of Birs of Guru Granth Sahib by private persons except the SGPC or those authorised by it.

River water dolphin spotted at Harike

Unbelievable but true, a pair of endangered river dolphins was spotted at the Harike wildlife sanctuary in Ferozepur district. Worldwide, river dolphins are only found in five rivers, two of which are Ganges and Indus.

Amritsar air linked to Italy

The state government will soon sign an agreement with a private company for the construction of an international airport at Mohali. This was disclosed by Bikram Singh Majithia, information and public relations minister, while inaugurating a direct charted flight from Amritsar to Italy at Cargo Complex, Rajasansi International Airport here today.

Stop maligning Phoolka, KAC to Hit
Amritsar, December 16
The Khalsa Action Committee here today asked Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal to stop his Delhi-based leaders who were indulging in false and malicious utterances against advocate Harvinder Singh Phoolka. Taking a serious view of utterances of Avtar Singh Hit, president, Delhi state SAD (B), against Phoolka Bhai, convener of the KAC, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Kanwarpal Singh said if Badal failed to rein in his men he would have to face the wrath of the Sikhs.

Kolkata woman in love with Punjab goes missing

Manikana Roy A middle-aged man yearning for his wife and a son longing for his mother, who has gone missing. It seems like a Bollywood movie, but this is reality of a Kolkata-based family. Fortyfive-year-old Manikana Roy, married to Kolkata executive K.N. Roy for 25 years, is missing from her home since May. She is believed to be somewhere in Punjab. The family has provided evidence regarding her to the Punjab Police. She was reportedly in touch on phone with a man, whom the family had met in Punjab a couple of years back.

School principal penalised under RTI Act
Sangrur, December 16
For not providing requisite information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to a teacher Tarsem Lal by principal of Government Senior Secondary School of Thales village, 4 km from here, state information commissioner R.K. Gupta has imposed a fine of Rs 250 per day with effect from July 30, 2007, subject to a maximum of Rs 25,000, on the principal of the school Harminder Singh.

Uncertainty prevails over ETT course
Ropar, December 16
Uncertainty prevails over the ETT course in Punjab as the state has not initiated any move to carry admissions for the course this year. Ideally, admissions for the course should have been completed by December. However, the government has not issued any notification for the purpose till date.

Congress forms committee on agriculture

Punjab Congress president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has constituted an Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Committee under the chairmanship of former Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) vice- chancellor Dr K.S Aulakh.
