Shopkeepers block road over construction of divider

In protest against the failure of the local civil and police authorities to regulate traffic on internal roads of the city shopkeepers today blocked the busy Amritsar-Pathankot-Kullu highway for over three hours.

147 specialist docs to be recruited: Chawla
Hoshiarpur, November 19
Punjab Public Service Commission has been requisitioned to recruit 147 specialist doctors for government hospitals in the state. This was stated by minister for health and family welfare Laxmi Kanta Chawla while talking to mediapersons here today.

Show-cause notice to four
Ropar, November 19
Kavita Singh, SDM, Ropar, issued a show-cause notice to four employees who were found absent from duty during a recent surprise check. The SDM said the employees including Ram Prakash and Karam Singh of Lohand construction division, Lahina Singh of the department of excise and Ram Singh of Ghanauli construction division were deputed in Nurpurbedi block for rectifying the voter lists.

Security of Baba Bhaniarawala reviewed

Labourer found dead near Balongi barrier
Kharar, November 19
A man was found dead in mysterious circumstances near Balongi today morning. The deceased was identified as Rajesh (22), a resident of Balongi and native of Muradabad (Uttar Pradesh). His body was found around 10 meters away from the main road of Balongi.

Canadian’s death: 2 held
Chandigarh, November 19
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Gurbaj Singh, father of Canada-based Punjabi journalist, Dr Sarabjit Singh Ghuman. Gurbaj Singh was murdered at Jhunda village, near Amargarh, in Sangrur district, a few days ago by his close relations.

Central grant for Punjabi, Urdu teachers

The last hitch for introduction of Punjabi as an elective subject in schools of Himachal Pradesh has been cleared. The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has, under its national languages scheme, decided to release grants for appointment of 100 teachers each of Punjabi and Urdu in the hill state.
