Srinagar, October 15
The Id Milan hosted by Azad at SKICC here today was attended by Governor of Tripura D. N. Sahay,currently here, and union water resources minister Saifuddin Soz. Governor Sinha and Shamim Azad also attended the function. Minister for education Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed, minister for consumer affairs and public distribution Taj Mohi-ud-Din, minister for tourism, PHE, irrigation and flood control Muhammad Dilawar Mir and several others ministers were also present. Earlier, Azad visited the shrine of Sheikh Hamza famous as Mukhdoom Sahab and paid obeisance at the shrine this morning. Azad walked through the shrine premises and inspected facilities for devotees visiting the shrine. He also visited nearby upcoming Badamwari Park in the foothills of Hari Parbat and inspected work on it, being developed by J&K Bank. |

Jammu, October 15 “We have not received salary and officials are unaware of our pathetic condition,” said a junior agriculture assistant (JAA) of Akhnoor subdivision. He added, “Employees of Jammu province consisting of all districts of the region have not been given their dues for the past two months.” Jammu district alone has been divided into four main subdivisions - Marh, Akhnoor, R.S. Pura and Dansal- and according to sources Rs 60 lakh is the budget required for the payment of the dues in these subdivisions, but only Rs 15 lakh has been allocated to the chief agricultural officer (CAO) for the payment of the dues of junior agriculture assistants “A sum of Rs 60 lakh is required for payment of the dues for the four subdivisions in Jammu district alone, but only Rs 15 lakh has been sanctioned to the CAO for the purpose,” said an official. Junior agriculture assistants of the department say their department has gifted them worries on festival season. Director of the department Vinod Bala Sharma feigned ignorance of the issue. “I have no knowledge on this issue that my employees haven’t got their dues for the past two months,” she said, adding, “I can comment on this issue only after I go to my office after the festival holidays are over.” But JAA employees of the department say they had conveyed their problem to the director a couple of times. “She had assured us to release our payment soon, but two months have gone and we are still waiting for our dues,” said one of the employees. |
Azad to soon review rehabilitation of Tangdhar quake-hit
Srinagar, October 15 Azad offered Id prayers with people of Tangdhar in the Karnah area on Sunday where nine villages with 900 households have, so far, been relocated after the devastation two years ago. It was the second time since he took over two years ago that he offered Id prayers with victims of quake in this border area. About 6,000 people congregated for Id prayers at the Jama Masjid where 14th century Muslim preacher from central Asia, Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, famous as Shah-e-Hamdan, had meditated and preached Islam during his stay in Kashmir. Azad said he would soon visit the area with senior officers to oversee completion of rehabilitation work and restoration of facilities. He said houses collapsed due to the quake, had been reconstructed.. After Id prayers, Azad flew to Teetwal border town with the Kishen Ganga river serving as Line of Control. The town had heavy devastation during the quake. People were seen witnessing the event from the other side of LoC across the river. Azad announced the upgradation of Teetwal high school to higher secondary level. He also announced Rs 2 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for a park and boundary wall around the graveyard at Tangdhar. Azad also announced special recruitment drive in the Police Department to be held soon at Tangdhar and Teetwal for local youth. |
Shifting of jail from Bhaderwah Fort opposed
Udhampur, October 15 All political parties, except the Congress and its coalition ally the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have joined hands to oppose the decision of shifting the jail. The Opposition suspected a conspiracy in this decision and alleged that the authorities had been shifting district-level offices from Bhaderwah to other areas. Residents pointed out that due to this jail many families were earning their livelihood. An all-party demonstration was held at Bhaderwah yesterday in which people were also present. Political activists warned the authorities against shifting the jail. Leaders of the National Conference, the BJP, the Panthers Party, the Janata Dal etc lambasted the government for ignoring Bhaderwah. They alleged that nothing had been done for the development of the town. The government has decided to shift all 68 prisoners of the jail housed in the Bhaderwah Fort to Jammu and Udhampur to make the fort a museum. The fort was built by Maharaja Phar Chand in 1873 and converted into a jail
in 1919. |
Man selling kidney for son’s treatment
Jammu,October 15 Khajuria,working as a driver in a private company,has left his job to search a buyer for his kidney he would sell to save his son.Khajuria told reporters here today “Vansh was born after 16 years and it was my moral duty to save the baby at any cost.” He said after the doctors in Jammu diagnosed a major heart problem he took the child to the AIIMS in Delhi where the cardiologist suggested immediate surgery to repair hole in the heart of the baby. The doctors told him the process would require Rs 3 lakh. |
