Officers have told Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that there was no possibility of raising the revenue from various taxes without taking hard measures. For correcting the skewed financial situation in the state, officers wanted a free hand to raise the revenue collection from VAT.

Three more accused have been arrested in connection with a clash between Akali and Congress supporters in Dhariwal village, falling under the Rajasansi area, on July 10. The incident had led to the killing of two persons, Sarup Singh and Kewal Singh, while a number of persons were seriously injured in the attack.
