SAD (A) to boycott Ratia conference

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) will not participate in the panthic conference to be held in Ratia in Haryana on July 11. Akal Takht is organising the conference. The SAD (A) is apprehensive about the safety of the Sikhs who are in minority there.

BJP to stake claim at right time: Minister

Punjab minister Swarna Ram made it clear that the BJP had not abandoned its claim on the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the alliance government. The issue would be raised at an appropriate time, he said at a press conference in the canal rest house here today.

Probe into ‘detention’ of cop sought
Jalandhar, July 8
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has sought a high- level probe into the alleged detention of Amritsar-based Punjab police head constable Jaswant Singh who had created a flutter by tendering his resignation in protest against the tributes paid to Khalistan ideologue Jagjit Singh Chohan in the recently concluded session of the state Assembly.

Apar Bajwa dead
Amritsar, July 8
Apar Singh Bajwa, a retired SP, who was instrumental in recognising and cremating the body of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, died yesterday. Bajwa was the first inspector in the state to be honoured with the President’s medal. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. His cremation was attended by a large number of people, including senior officers of the police. — TNS

Twelve cases of gastroenteritis have been reported in Tanda block in the past three days.According to Dr Kamaljit Kaur, civil surgeon, 11 patients had been admitted to the civil hospital and one in a private nursing home in Tanda town.
