Kin of Jathedar Akal Takht Joginder Singh Vedanti, including his wife, dominate the list of 12 persons planning to go to Canada for "preliminary preparations and holding delegation" with Sikh organisations and officials of government of Canada for bringing holy "Kalgi" (sacred Crest) of Guru Gobind Singh from Canada. Plan of Takht chief’s kin to go to Canada has invited mild disapproval.

CM refuses comment

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today refused to comment on the ultimatum served by the Gurmat Sidhant Pracharak Sant Samaj on Saturday in Ludhiana on the Union, Punjab and Haryana governments for arresting Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by June 18.

4 held for vehicle thefts
Patiala, June 3
With the arrest of four youths, the local police today claimed to have solved at least 12 cases of theft of vehicles. The police also recovered a stolen scooter (PB 11G 4935) from their possession.

Security personnel deployed at the local Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant today tied a thief to its main gate after giving him a sound thrashing. Rajesh Kumar was punished by the securitymen for allegedly stealing electric wire from the plant. He was kept tied to the gate for about one hour.

Man kills second wife
Abohar, June 3
Pappu Singh, a resident of village 17SDA in the neighbouring Sriganganagar area, late last night killed his second wife by hitting her head with an iron rod, sources said this morning.

The Nakodar police has registered a case against a travel agent Mohan Singh, his wife Kuldip Kaur and his son Davinder of Littran village on the charge of cheating a Talwan resident Baldev Raj, who reportedly gave Rs 9.5 lakh to them for sending him to Canada. The accused neither returned the money nor was Baldev Raj sent to Canada even after more than a year.

Sanjay Kumar (22), who had been selling meat near the municipal bus stand here after migration from Bihar, was killed, as the three-wheeler in which he was going to have dinner at a dhaba located on the city bypass overturned after hitting a stray cattle late last night.
