A three-member committee of doctors has exonerated gynaecologist Vandana from the allegations of negligence on her part in the intra-uterine death (IUD) of a mature foetus early this month in RB Sewak Ram Hospital located at Kapurthala Chowk here.

Bollywood actor Rajpal passes away
Phagwara, May 31
Rajpal, a Bollywood actor and Phagwara resident, died of cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Tuesday night. He had worked as villain in “The Train” starring Rajesh Khanna, “Tere Mere Sapne” of Dev Anand, “Geeta Mera Naam” starring Sadhna, “Chirag” of Sunil Dutt, “Ulfat” of Raj Kumar, “Beiman” and “Sanyasi” of Manoj Kumar. He had a great combination with renowned film director R.K. Nayyar, husband of actress Sadhna, who gave him opportunity in several films.

‘Enough evidence against Amarinder’

The Parkash Singh Badal government has enough evidence against the former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s involvement in the Ludhiana City Centre scam, acting president of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal stated this here on Wednesday.

3 POs held in dowry case
Phagwara, May 31
The Phagwara police on Wednesday arrested three proclaimed offenders, Vinod Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Vipin Kumar, against whom a case of dowry harassment was registered in the year 2005. The trio was arrested from Amritsar.

5 hospitalised for food poisoning

Five members of a family at Lakhpur village were hospitalised here on Wednesday with suspected food poisoning after they had dinner at their home on Tuesday night.

Students rally for tobacco-free world

To mark World No Tobacco Day, school and nursing institute students took out rally here today. The rally proceeded from ITI near Red Cross Bhawan and passed through various streets to finally conclude at the same venue.

RPF spruces up passenger security
Phagwara, May 31
Alarmed over increasing incidents of passengers being drugged and looted in the trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated steps to ensure safety of the passengers. Addressing passengers at Phagwara railway station, S.K. Rana, assistant commandant, RPF, asked them to not accept any eatables from unidentified persons and be vigilant while travelling.

Abacus launches e-ticket service
Jalandhar, May 31
Abacus International, a travel facilitator firm, has launched e-ticketing with Malaysia Airlines. This enables Abacus’ travel agents in Malaysia and Singapore to issue e-tickets on Malaysia Airlines for all domestic flights and travel between Malaysia and Singapore on or after 15 July 2007.
