TWO HELD WITH ILLICIT LIQUOR: Daljit Singh of Walipur was arrested by the police from Talwandi New Abadi during patrolling and 16680 ml of illicit liquor was recovered from him. In another incident, the Sidhwan Bet police arrested Jaswant Singh of Abbupura from the area and recovered 6930 ml of illicit liquor from his possession. Cases under the Excise Act have been registered.

FIVE BOOKED FOR ASSAULT: Lakhvir Singh, Jagsir Singh and Harbans Singh of Johlan allegedly assaulted Jagraj Singh of their village with sharp-edged weapons. The Raikot police has registered a case under Sections 324, 323, 34 of the IPC against the said persons. The injured has been admitted to the Raikot Civil Hospital. No arrest has been made so far. In another incident, Bittu and Kuldeep Singh of Kamalpura have been booked by the police on the charges of threatening, hurling abuses and damaging the gate of the house of Sher Singh of their village. A case under Sections 294, 506, 427 of the IPC has been registered against the said persons.

ARMY PENSIONERS: The ex-soldiers who started getting pension prior to 1986 now need not go to PPO to become the member of the ECHS and a xerox copy of their pension book will be acceptable. Col Bhag Singh, VSM (retd), senior vice-president, State League of Indian Ex-League Punjab and Chandigarh, said the matter was decided at a meeting of former ex-soldiers and Army officials. Col Bhag Singh also appealed to all ex-soldiers to become member before March 31, 2008, to avail benefit from the scheme.

CONFERENCE: The All-India Punjab National Bank SC/ST Employees Welfare Association (Northern Zone) organised a conference at Ambala Cantt on Sunday. National president of the association Ranjeet Singh Sheoran was the chief guest whereas general manager (northern zone) of the bank V.P. Chopra presided over the conference.

PEACE MARCH: A peace march, going from Karnal to the Wagah border, stopped over here on Sunday. Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Haryana, received the peace march at Gurdwara Manji Sahib in Ambala city.

2 kg charas seized:
The Mandi district police on Monday ceased 2 kg of charas from one person under the Gohar police station and arrested him under the NDPS Act. The accused, Paramdev, was carrying charas in his bag. The police patrolling team caught him on the Pandoh-Kandi road. He belongs to Parwara of Chachiot teshil.

Tibetan team meets Governor:
Senior officials from the Tibetan government-in-exile, Dharamsala, led by Nangsa Chodon, secretary of the Tibetan Public Service Commission, called on Governor V.S. Kokje, here on Monday. It was a courtesy call. The officials are participating in a management training programme at Mashobra.

One killed: One person was killed and another injured when a truck (HP-06-2365) fell into a khad at Himpolice Nagar in Kumarsain on Monday morning. The truck was carrying vegetables from Chandigarh to Rampur. While conductor Praveen Kumar was killed on the spot, driver Krishna Dev was seriously injured.

Jat parishad
: Harnam Singh Gill has been unanimously elected as the president of the Himachal Pradesh Jat Kalyan Parishad for the third consecutive term. The other office-bearers elected include, senior vice-president - Jaswant Singh; vice-president - Paramjit Kaur; general secretary - Balwant Singh Dogra; and organising secretary - Parshotam Singh Padda.

HAMIRPUR
Workshop
: The Nalanda College of Education organised a two-day workshop on lesson planning on Monday. Press secretary of the college Kamlesh Parwari said about 100 teachers participated in the workshop and learnt techniques of lesson planning.
