Hans calls for traditional bonding with parents
Mahesh Sharma

Mandi Ahmedgarh, March 19
Showing concern over the eclipsing of our cultural heritage by glamorous western tinge, sufi singer Hans Raj Hans called upon the youth of Punjab to respect their parents and prevent families from breaking.

The sufi singer suggested the parents to devote more time to their children.

“What pains me most is that the youth of Punjab that was once known for their devotion to their parents have started imbibing mechanical elements of western culture easily and started ignoring them (parents),” said Hans while talking to Ludhiana Tribune here today.

Terming the crowding of old age homes with the parents of prosperous surviving sons and the incidents of the performance of their last rites by some living parents, Hans said the trend was a blot on our society. “One can gauge the extent of humiliation and disrespect that could have forced old parents to take refuge at a old age home or perform their last rites and stock fuel for their cremation,” said Hans.

Exhorting poets and writers to remember their moral duty of preserving social values and norms, Hans alleged that certain popular songs had spoiled the youth of Punjab. “It is high time that poets and writers should forsake commercial interests and start writing inspiring songs,” said Hans hoping that quality songs would nullify the damaging affects of provocative songs.

Terming faulty education and indifferent attitude of parents towards their children as the major factors in creating present circumstances, Hans called upon educationists to inculcate good traits in their students, besides giving them quality formal education. “At the same time the parents should also understand that a word of advice from them would act more affectively than a lesson from a school teacher,” he claimed.
