Rainfall: Weather was dry over the region. Temperature: Past 24 hours change: The minimum temperatures changed little. Departure: They were normal over the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 4C recorded at Adampur (Punjab) and Sarsawa (Uttar Pradesh).

Forecast valid until the morning of December 4: During next 24 hours, rain/snow is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal whereas mainly dry weather is likely in the rest of the region. After 24 hours, rain/snow is likely at many places over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal and rain/thundershowers are likely at a few places over west Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh and Delhi, and over west Uttar Pradesh. Weather will be mainly dry in the rest of the region. Heavy rainfall warning: Isolated heavy rain/snow is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir after 24 hours.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: Increase in precipitation over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal, west Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and west Uttar Pradesh with possibility of heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of December 4: Mainly clear sky, likely to become partly cloudy towards evening. Mist is likely in the morning. The minimum temperature will be around 13C.

Snow in higher reaches of HP

Chandigarh, December 2
Higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snow today, plummeting the temperatures in the plains in the north-west region.

People reeled under cold climatic conditions in Punjab and Haryana with the temperatures staying low. Cold surface winds blew across the plains.

Adampur, Halwara, Ambala, Sirsa, Sarsawa, Srinagar and Jammu experienced haze in the morning.

High altitude areas in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur had another spell of snow, making the people groan under severe cold wave conditions.

Rohtang Pass and the Dhauladhar also had snow.

Cold wave conditions also prevailed in many areas of Kulu, Chamba and Shimla districts. The minimum settled at 1.7 degrees at Bhuntar while Sunderdnagar recorded 2.4 degrees and Una 2 degrees.

Shimla and its surrounding areas also reeled under cold climatic conditions even as the minimum rose in the capital town to 5.1 degrees from 4.1 degrees celsius recorded yesterday.

In Punjab, Amritsar reeled under cold climatic conditions with the minimum hovering 5.8°C Ludhiana recorded 6.6°C one degree below normal, and Patiala 9.5°C.

In Haryana, the mercury dipped at Naranaul, Rohtak, Karnal and Hisar, respectively recording the minimum temperatures at 5 degrees, 10 degrees, 9.6 degrees and 10.8 degrees. — UNI
