Five booked: The Dehlon police has registered a case under Sections 447, 511, 427, 148 and 149 of the IPC against Sher Singh, Sukhvir Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harvinder Singh and Didar Singh for trespassing on the fields of Swaranjit Singh of Rashin village.

Scooter stolen: The Sidhwan Bet police has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC on the complaint of Harbans Singh of Faridkot. He reported that his scooter was stolen from Galib Kalan village on Tuesday.

Yoga camp ends
: A free yoga camp organised jointly by Prof Vinay Jain and the Senior Citizen Welfare Association at the Community Centre, Model Town, Patiala, concluded here on Tuesday evening. According to a press note, Yoga asana were demonstrated by Bijendra Shartu, a disciple of Swami Ram Dev. A free medical check-up camp was also organised in which about 200 persons were examined by ayurvedic, homoeopathic and naturopathic doctors.

New GM of SBoP: Mr T. Lokeshaiah has joined as General Manager (Treasury) of State Bank of Patiala (SBoP) at its head office at Patiala. According to a press note, prior to joining the SBoP, Mr Lokeshaiah was Deputy General Manager (Treasury) in State Bank of Travancore.

Dharna called off: The Residents Welfare Federation, Sector 45, on Wednesday called off its dharna against the UT Administration’s decision to construct dormitories for rickshaw pullers in Burail area. The decision was taken after a meeting with the UT Administrator.

Special Lok Adalat: A special Lok Adalat will be held at District Courts here on Thursday. The adalat will be held by 13 Benches. At least 3,540 complaints relating to traffic challans and the Shop Act will be taken up at the adalat.

Polio immunisation campaign: To launch pulse polio immunisation campaign 2006, a meeting of sarpanches, panches and religious leaders was held under the chairmanship of the Subdivisional Magistrate (Central), Mr Ankur Garg, in the auditorium of the District Family Welfare Bureau here on Wednesday. The SDM asked the gathering to ensure that all children, aged between 0-5 years, be administered polio vaccine at the nearest booths set up by the UT Health Department on November 12. In an effort to eradicate the polio, 461 booths (stationary and mobile) would be set up, informed the UT District Family Welfare Officer.

Seminar: A two-day seminar on “Concept of Akal Takht” will be held at Shivalik Public School, Mohali, from November 11. It will be organised by the Institute of Sikh Studies. Mr Ashok Singh Bagrian, secretary of the institute, said it would be inaugurated by the Head Granthi of the Harmandir Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh.

Accused turns witness: Sohan Lal, an accused in a trap case of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was declared a witness in the court of CBI Special Judge here on Wednesday. Sohan Lal along with Noorudin and K.L. Gandhi, Protector of Emigrant (POE), was caught in a case of accepting bribe. The investigating agency on Wednesday moved an application before the court and it was accepted by the judge. This will enable the investigating agency to strengthen its case against the other accused.
