PUSU opposes hike in sports fee
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, November 2
Members of the Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) today protested outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office against the 30 per cent hike in sports fee.

Led by PUSU president Abhishek Puri, the union alleged that the university was not providing any facility to students as far as sports was concerned. It alleged that the Director, Sports, did not allow students to play until they booked the ground for four hours at the rate of Rs 1,000.

“In case we start using the ground we are herded like cattle by the Director, and his men out of the grounds. We are the students of the university and we cannot use the grounds, he said.

The students said they did not mind paying the extra fee but the university should at least provide facilities. “The university gymnasium fee is separate from the sports fee and it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. It also closes by 4.00 pm. When do we use it?” he asked.

They gave a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor who assured them that their complaint would be looked into.
