Alpine paddlers dazzle in CBSE championship

Ludhiana, October 28
The players of Alpine International Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, gave a stupendous performance through out the CBSE Cluster-XVI Zone Table Tennis Championship-2006.

They clinched the boys team championship (under-16), stood runners-up in the girls team championship (under-16) and attained the third position in three events of the boys and girls gteam championship under -14 and girls team championship.

On the concluding day, the Alpine players outclassed last year’s winning teams — Apeejay School, Jalandhar by 3-2.

The Greenland Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, also bagged two titles in the boys and girls team championship under-19.

Their boys team defeated the last year’s runners-up team Shiv Jyoti Public School, Jalandhar, by 3-1 and girls had to fight for the title against Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Amritsar, by 3-2

The table tennis cluster witnessed many upsets and victories and finally drew curtains on October 28 when the chief guest Mr Kirpal Singh Aulakh closed the meet.

Mrs Rajinder Kaur Sekhon, CBSE observer, was the guest of honour on this occasion.

Boys Team Championship (Under-14) Final Apeejay School, Jalandhar beat DAV Public School, Lawerence Road, Amritsar, 3-2 (Sargun lost to Madhur 11-8, 8-1 1,1 1-7,9-1 1,1 1-13, Mukul lost to Vikrant 11-6,6-11,5-11,9-11, Ashim beat Akasdeep 11-3,7-11,11-8,7-11, 1 1-7, Mukul beat Madhur 11-5, 11-5, 8-11,4-11,11-7, Sargun beat Vikrant 11-6,11-7,8-11,8-11,11-9).

Seth Hukam Chand School, Jalandhar, beat DAV Public School, Ludhiana, to get the third position.

Girls team championship (under-14) final: Lala Saran Dass Bhuta Ram Aggarwal Sarv Hitkari Sr. Sec. Vidya Mandir School, Fazilka, beat D.A.V. International School, Anintsar 3-2 ( Deepshikha beat Tanveen 8-11, 11-5,6-11,11-3,11-4, Jasmeen lost to Supreet 11-9,11-9,11-4, Rachita lost to Sugandha 11-7,6-11,7-11,20-22, Jasmeen beat Tanveen 12-10,3-11,11-8,10-12,11-7, Deepshikha beat Supreet 11-9,11-9,8-11,11-7)

SAARC Transplant Olympics ends

Ludhiana, October 28
The 9th All-India Transplant Games and 2nd SAARC Transplant Olympics concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here today with a colourful prize distribution ceremony organised at the DMCH.

Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, state Minister for PWD and Education, gave away the prizes. The ceremony opened with a cultural programme by students of Alpine International School and DAV Public School.

Dr Daljit Singh, Principal, DMCH, laid stress on promoting organ donation.

Last evening, a donor honouring ceremony was held by the organising committee at Guru Nanak Stadium in which organ donors from India, Pakistan and other SAARC countries were felicitated.

Mr Rajdeep Singh Gill, ADGP, presided.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by singer Harbhajan Mann.

The following are the results: badminton (women) —Dr Hema Sahir (Punjab) 1, Raj Bala Sharma (Delhi) 2, and Rajinder Gandhi (Delhi) 3; badminton (men) — Davis K.J. (Kerala) 1, Ibne Abbas (Pakistan) 2, and Nitin Vadgama (Gujarat) 3; best athlete (women) — Dr Hema Sahir; best athlete (men-27-35 yrs) — Chaman Lal (Punjab), (35-45 yrs) — N. Ravi (Tamil Nadu) and (45 yrs and above) — Rakesh Kumar Anand (UP).

Trials for u-19 cricket today

Ludhiana, October 28
Trials to select the Ludhiana District Twenty-Twenty (U-19) cricket team will be taken at BCM Arya Model Sr Sec School, Shastri Nagar, at 11.00 am on Sunday for the Punjab State Inter-District U-19 Twenty-Twenty Championship, which is going to be held at Jalandhar from November 1. It will to be organised by the Punjab State Twenty-Twenty Cricket Association under the supervision of the Jalandhar District Twenty-Twenty Cricket Association. According to Piyush Rana, Secretary, of the association, nationals for U-19 will be held at Chandigarh from November 12 to November 19.

According to Mr Amarvir Singh, president, LPTTCA, players born on September 1 or after September 1, 1987, are eligible to participate.
