Pensioners of aided school seek relief
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, October 28
The Punjab Government Pensioners’ Association hails various sops approved by the Punjab Cabinet for state employees and pensioners as well . The package will benefit about 5 lakh employees and pensioners.

Pensioners of Punjab are jubilant over various concessions granted to them. The concessions include fixed medical allowance hike from Rs 250 to Rs 350 per month and grant of 5 per cent interim release pension, including dearness pension . However, they are unhappy for not fulfilment of certain demands which entail marginal financial implications. These include payment of travel concession to pre-April, 2004, retirees after merging 50 per cent DA with basic pension as it has been done in case of post-April, 2004, retirees. Eighty-year-old pensioners have not been given pension on a par with 80-year-old MLAs in Punjab. The 3rd Punjab Pay Commission also recommended this equality for them. The pensioners seek house rent allowance as promised by the government.

Meanwhile, Mr K.K. Tandon, president, of the Punjab Aided Schools Pensioners Cell, urged the Chief Minister that pensioners of aided schools should also be given 5 per cent interim relief and medical pension like government pensioners and employees.

They have also requested the government to grant pension to the employees who retired after May 31, 2003. This demand has also been made by members of the Shree Manav Seva Welfare Bureau and the All-India Senior Citizens Organisation.
