The stalls of games, eateries, aromatic candles, tarot card reading, designer clothes and astrology were great crowd pullers. All items on display, including shagun thalis, envelopes, small decorative boxes and designer clothes, were made by the students themselves, she added.

The students had also made special Divali gifts, decorative tissue flowers, exotic chocolates, trousseau-packing material, which were well appreciated by visitors.

One of the students, Rishu, a second-year designing student, said they had put in sincere efforts to help the downtrodden. “The management has decided to give the collected money to the Red Cross. Some amount will be spent on medicines for thalassaemic children,” she said.

Meanwhile, students of J.D. Institute also displayed their creativity in the form of an exhibition here today. Students from fashion designing, interior designing, textile designing and jewellery designing showcased their skills via this exhibition. This was the first time that students had gone beyond just creating commodities. They presented real-life designer showroom/ studio setups. The fashion students made kurtis, tunics, kaftans, besides other things. Their range of accessories included beautiful belts, handbags, footwear and mobile covers. “The students have put in their best and are now looking forward to acceptance and appreciation from the market. They have predicted the trends that will dominate the markets in the coming season with their flamboyant collections,” said Pragati Taneja, Director of the institute.

Their entire collection was split up in a two-room display. One having the theme “Diamond” and the other “Sapphire”. The Diamond boutique had all crystals, silver glitters and swaroski in it. It had an array of glittering evening gowns, ethnic party wear and smart garments. Bright butterflies adorned the walls of the room while mirrors and arabian sequins complemented the theme. The Sapphire theme had a melange of blues, pinks and ochre in its theme as well as the creations. Students made hand-painted kurtis, sequined kaftans, intricately embroidered tunics, as well as sultry night-wear. Satins, laces, pearls, nets and various accessories ruled the ambience.

The interior designing students presented the entire concept of a kid’s bedroom. Brightly painted walls with funky graffiti were the centre of attraction. An elaborate study table gave maximum utility in a minimum given space while maintaining its aesthetic value. It had provision for keeping books, stationery, and ample space for a child to develop his creative talents by doodling, painting.
