S. African delegation visits PAU
Ludhiana, October 12 Dr Aulakh spoke on the status of agriculture after Independence. Referring to the role of Punjab in meeting the food deficit, he said the PAU made a wide difference to the agricultural scene in 1962. Food production in the state logged a quantum jump from two million tonnes in 1960s to over 25 million tonnes at present. He said the PAU would train scientists and impart education to South African students. “This will be possible within the ambit of the MoU signed at the government level between Limpopo and Punjab. The Vice-Chancellor presented a set of university publications to Prof Ramogale. Each delegate gave a small introduction and identified the areas in which they were seeking academic cooperation from the PAU. The delegation visited some departments and evinced interest in farm power and machinery at the College of Agricultural Engineering. The delegation also met the Dean, College of Agriculture, Dr G.S. Chahal, besides other Deans and the Director of Extension Education. |

Govt School Rampur wins district science congress
Doraha, October 12 Ms Gurdeep Kaur, Headmistress of the school, congratulated the participants, including Harmit Singh, Balraj Singh, Amanpreet Singh, Sarabjit Singh and Satnam Singh, along with their guide Ms Paul Rani Kaur, whose dedicated efforts had borne fruit and brought laurels to the school by facing tough competition from the public schools of Ludhiana and winning the first position.— OC |

Three sportspersons to get Amarjit Grewal award
Ludhiana, October 12 This was stated by Mr Ramesh Singla and Mr Prithipal Singh Batala, Chairman and President, respectively, of the PRSPC here today. They said the committee had finalised the names of former national hockey coach Baldev Singh and Olympians Palwinder Cheema (wrestler) and Rajwinder Kaur (athlete) for the award. They said the council would also honour a sports club for the promotion of games on the occasion. The award would be given to the Football Academy of Rurka Kalan. The three sportspersons would be given a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each while the academy would receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000. A seminar would also be conducted during the prize distribution function to guide rural sports clubs. Prominent sports personalities would deliver lectures. |

In the girls u-16 group Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, beat BCM School, Ludhiana, 36-20. In the boys u-19 section Kundan Vidya Mandir school scraped past Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School 25-24. In the men’s section, GNE College, Ludhiana, outclassed Air Force School, Halwara, 46-28. |
