1993 hotel bomber found guilty

Mumbai, September 27
The special court constituted under the Terrorism and Disruptive Activities Act today declared Mohammed Mushtaq Musa Tarani guilty of setting off a blast at the Juhu Centaur hotel on March 12, 1993.

Tarani, an aide of prime conspirator Tiger Memon, was also found guilty of being part of the conspiracy. He was found guilty of attending a meeting of the conspirators at the Taj Mahal and also doing a reconnaisance survey of various targets like the Bombay Stock Exchange where also blasts were set off.

Tarani was also found guilty of parking a scooter filled with RDX Shaikh Memon Street in south Mumbai. However the bike did not explode.

Tarani had checked into room 3078 of Hotel Juhu Centaur and left behind a bag filled with RDX. The package exploded though no body was killed. Three persons were injured and the hotel was closed for several weeks.

Tarani,33, was the 19th person found guilty.
