Amritsar
4 held for flesh trade
: The Vijay Nagar police has nabbed four persons, two girls, a woman and a boy for allegedly running a flesh trade. The police has registered a case. According to information, the police on a tip-off sent a policeman posing as a customer to the house of Gursharan Kaur, the alleged kingpin, in Jagdambe Colony. The deal was settled for Rs 500.

Illegal detention: ASI booked: Following the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Kotwali police has booked Kashmir Singh, an ASI, for illegally detaining Bachan Lal and his son. The case was registered three and a half years after the lodging of the complaint. Krishna, wife of Bachan Lal, in her complaint alleged that Kashmir Singh who was an ASI at that time at Kotwali police station had illegally detained her husband and son on April 24, 2003. Kashmir Singh was booked under Section 342 of the IPC.

SDO, 4 others booked
: The Fatehgarh Churian police has booked Rajinder Singh, an SDO of the Punjab State Electricity Board and a resident of Medical Enclave, Amritsar, along with four others for allegedly defrauding Baljinder Singh of Meerankot, Parminder Singh of Majitha Road and Jagwinder Singh of Majitha. The other accused include Balwant Singh, Jaspal Singh, Savinder Singh and Rachhpal Kaur who are the relatives of Rajinder Singh. A case under Sections 420, 506 and 120-B, IPC, has been registered after taking the opinion of the DA.

Cheques distributed
: Mr Parkash Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, distributed cheques amounting to Rs 2.33 crore under the Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyan for infrastructure development in government schools in the district at Government Senior Secondary School, here on Monday. Cheques amounting to Rs 1.70 lakh each for the construction of 120 classrooms and Rs 2000 each to 82 schools under the BALA scheme were distributed.

Man commits suicide:
Gora Singh (40), father of three children, set himself on fire on Monday in front of the house of his beloved, who is also a mother of two children, in Madhopuri Mohalla at Dhuri, about 13 km from here. He died on the spot.
