Cancer, abdominal surgery unit opens
Chandigarh, August 24 Addressing a press conference, Dr S.S. Samra said, “The end stage of a liver disease is unmanageable with medicines. It has to be dealt with by surgery. Transplantation of the liver to such patients will be possible at the advanced unit of Grecian Hospital to enable them to lead a better quality of life.” Dr S.S. Samra introduced Dr Mudit Kumar who had earlier worked with the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and liver transplantation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, would head the department. Dr Mudit Kumar said the hospital would specialise in the stage three cancer surgeries for abdominal cancers, cancers of liver, gall bladder, pancreas, stomach, esophagus, intestine, colon, rectum and anus. Coupled with chemotherapy, the surgeries performed will be able to give long term benefits to patients. The major focus will be on surgeries of liver (resection and transplantation), pancreas and other cancers of abdomen, as currently these services are almost non-existent in this region. He further added that the Grecian Super Speciality Hospital will bring the minimal access surgery for various operations. Key- hole surgery earlier possible for gall bladder surgeries in the region will now be available for a host of other surgeries like liver, pancreas, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, appendix, hernia and many other organs. Major laparoscopic surgeries for cancers of colon, stomach and anal canal with faster recovery period will be accessible to patients in the region. Minimal invasive surgical technique will also be possible for incidence of piles amongst youth. He said advanced laproscopic surgery of cancer of the intestine would cost about Rs 40,000 though this would increase if a patient was suffering from any other medical problem. Dr Shachi Joshi Samra, Medical Director of the hospital, who was also present on the occasion, said the services at the hospital would include comprehensive gastroenterology care, which would include diseases other than cancers as well. |
Free medical camp
Lalru, August 24 According to a press note issued, Dr Simi Malhotra and Dr Jagjit Chander from the mini Public Health Centre here conducted the camp. Free consultation and medicines were given to patients. Mr Tribhavan Kumar, Assistant Manager(Retail and Sales), Chandigarh region, IOC, informed that under the “sambandh” programme free medical camps were bring organised by the company in different parts. Besides, the wards of attendants at different petrol stations were given scholarships by the company, he added. |

In the second match of the day, Surjit Academy of Jalandhar thrashed GTB Academy of Baba Bakala by 5-1. It was the skipper Prabdeep Singh, who put up a dynamic show and netted four goals out of five including a hat-trick. He opened the account in the fourth minute then struck again in the 16th and the 22nd minute to complete his hat-trick. In the 27th minute, Manpreet extended the lead by 4-1. The last goal was again scored by Prabdeep in 50th minute. The solitary goal for the losers was hit by Harjot. |
Choi Kwang Do training camp from Sept 2
Panchkula, August 24 The camp will be a unique as Grand Master Kwang jo Choi, 9th Degree Black Belt and Founder and President Choi Kwang Do Martial Art International, and Grand Master Don Woo, 8th Degree Black Belt and Senior Master Marshall Pereira, 7th Degree Black Belt will come to the country to supervise the camp. On the occasion, a seminar will also be held in which senior instructors from America, England and Australia turn up. The camp offers a great opportunity to the interested players to develop the skills and to learn afresh all the concepts, techniques and methods of the martial art from Grand Masters. Choi Kwang Do, not only helps to improve the fitness but teaches also the art of self-defence. |
Khalsa College beat PU by six wickets
Chandigarh, August 24 Put in to bat first, the PU team piled up 136 all out in 25 overs. Manish was the highest scorer with 40 runs. Gaurav Gambhir of the Khalsa College proved the wrecker as he claimed five wickets for 12 runs followed by Samandeep, who took three for 20 runs. With the fine half-century by Mandeep (53) and unbeaten 28 by Simrat Bawa, the Khalsa College made 137 in 30 overs losing three wickets. Brief scores: P U: 136 all out in 25 overs (Munish 40, Gaurav Gambhir 5 for 12 and Samandeep 3 for 20). Khalsa College: 137 for 4 in 30 overs (Mandeep 53, Simrat Bawa 28 n o). The other match played between DAV College, Sector 10, and SD College, Sector 32, was abandoned due to heavy rains. Earlier, batting first, the SD College scored 229 all out in 50 overs. Gurkirat made 65 runs whereas Rahul Arora and Karanbir contributed 40 and 33 runs, respectively. Amit Negi took four wickets for 38 and Amit scapled two for 43. The DAV team was on 52 for 1 in 7 overs when the rain played spoilsport. The match could not be completed and was declared drawn. Equal points were awarded to both the teams. |

e-Jan Sampark Project launched
Chandigarh, August 24 The unique project, first of its kind in the country, is a revolutionary step to bring the administration closer and accessible to all sections of society, especially the under-privileged. They provide value- added services through the process of information technology. General Rodrigues, in his brief address to residents of the area, said this project, featuring helpline, facilitation and grievances redressal mechanisms, was another step to move forward through the partnership route. Mr M.S.Brar, Director, IT, gave an account of various services through e-Jan Sampark Project which include, registration of grievances and application seeking information under the Right to Information Act, all procedures and forms for all public dealing departments used by a common man, education and health, transport and tourism-related information and enquires related to passport status, railway booking form, train timing and access to all government websites. The e-Jan Sampark kiosks will be launched at Sampark Centres in Sector 10, 15, 18, 23, 43, 47, Industrial Area and Manimajra. The other sites in Phase I have been identified for setting up of e-Jan Sampark Services in Sector 9,11,17, 22 32, 35, 38, 40 and 45. The services will also be available in all UT villages from the Gram Sampark Centres, which are likely to be launched in October. Mr Lalit Sharma, Adviser to Administrator and Mr S.K. Sandhu, Finance Secretary, were also present on the occasion. |
Admn to issue angling
licences from Sept 1
Chandigarh, August 24 This has been done to promote tourism and to add another attraction to the Sukhna Lake. These licenses will be issued for a day, 10-day and monthly basis. A UT spokesman disclosed that this was being done to cultivate the interest of public in angling. The fishing by angling is done for hobby purposes. The fishing activities in the Sukhna Lake will be permitted from 9 am to 5 pm. The angling will be allowed on all working days, including Saturdays and Sundays. People can get licences for a day at Rs 25, for 10 days at Rs 200 and for a month at Rs 500. |
