Art not just passion for her
Ludhiana, July 21 Meet Anjana Kuthiala, a painter, writer of repute and former Miss India (1975). Anjana feels that art is not just a passion, it commands respect and is spread over decades. Anjana is in city these days to hold an exhibition of her paintings at “Vivaha”, which starts on July 22 at Park Plaza. Talking with Ludhiana Tribune, Anjana says when she became Miss India, modelling was not everybody’s cup of tea. “A woman had to be gutsy. Even though I had the opportunity, I preferred to become an artist instead of a model. And I think I made the right decision. I have got everything — name, fame, good family and respect in the society,” said Anjana. Anjana started her career as a beauty queen and went on to paint beautiful women. Her first exhibition was held in Delhi around two decades ago. Since then, Anjana has moved on to other themes like landscapes and portraits. Her friend and co-model Shobha De always stands by her. On her art work, Shobha De comments: “When a beautiful woman strives to interpret her vision of female beauty on the canvas, the images acquire a special meaning and magical dimension.” She says this is her second exhibition in the city. “Ludhianavis are art lovers and they will not mind spending a few thousand rupees on a good work of art. Leading business houses of the city are my customers. People have the purchasing power, but there aren’t many art aficionados in the city. Today, even banks provide loans worth lacks of rupees to buy art works. Of course, loans are sanctioned to people who can repay these,” she added smilingly. Anjana feels that one needs support from family and friends to be successful. “So many people are involved to support you. They can be your family members, friends or colleagues. My family has always been with me. But on my canvas, I am alone and nobody dares interfere,” said
Anjana. |
