To make the public aware about dental care, a public lecture on “Care of teeth to last your life” by Prof H.S. Chawla, head, oral health sciences centre, PGIMER, will be delivered on July 22 at 5 pm in APC Auditorium of the institute.

Manipur eves blank Punjab 15-0

Defending champions Manipur, captained by international M Bem-Bem Devi, scored at will routing Punjab 15-0 during a group I quarterfinal league of the third Junior Girls (Under-17) National Football Championship being conducted by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Punjab Engineering College Campus here, today.

Manipur proved far superiors to Punjab. The goals scored by their strikers through header were a treat to watch. Manipur pierced the Punjab defence through M. Bem-Bem Devi (28th, 42nd, 56th), M. Mandakini Devi (5th, 12th, 23rd), N Montesori Chanu (47th, 52nd, 66th), E Bindyarani Devi (20th, 25th, 55th, 74th), W. Radharani Devi (43rd) and Ksh Naocha Devi (53rd).

With this, Manipur registered their third successive win and collected nine full points to take top position in their group. Haryana will cross swords with Group II leaders in the second semifinal on July 25. Both semifinals and final will be played at the Sector 17 football stadium.

Haryana registered a stunning 3-1 win against Tamil Nadu and ensured their berth in the semifinals. In the encounter played at the adjacent ground of PEC, it was Haryana’s striker Diksha who proved to be tough for the Tamil squad.

Tamil Nadu were put ahead by M. Jeyanthi, who pounced on the rebound only to push the ball in from a close distance in the fifth minute of the first half. Haryana restored parity through Meenakshi in the 45th minute and later Diksha caught Tamil Nadu napping in the 50th and 70th minutes for her match-winning brace and steered her team to victory.

Manav Mangal gymnasts excel

Panchkula, July 21
Gymnasts of Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, Panchkula, emerged winners in under-14 girls and boys categories, for the third consecutive year in the Panchkula District Inter-School Gymnastics Championship organised by the District Education Department on its premises, here today.

In u-14 girls category, Manav Mangal topscored (50.55) beating Bhavan Vidyalaya (42.10) and Jainendra Public School (14.90). Four girls of MMS — Manisha, Madhuri, Diksha and Himanshu — have been selected for state tournament.

In u-14 boys category, Manav Mangal again top scored (68.80) beating Bhavan Vidyalaya (43.90) and Jainendra Public School (25.20). Four boys of MMS, namely Mahesh, Amandeep, Manpreet and Ashish, from this category have been selected for the state tournament scheduled to be held in October.

The results: u- 17:

(Girls): Bhavan Vidyalaya (23.10) 1; Manav Mangal (21.80) 2; Jainendra Public School (17.10) 3.

(Boys): Manav Mangal (55.90) 1; Bhavan Vidyalaya (41.70) 2; Jainendra Public School (35.90) 3. In this category also, four boys — Rahul, Lavish, Rohit and Neelesh — have been selected for the state tournament.

Judo, karate results

Panchkula, July 21
Samrat Rana of Saupin’s School, Sector 9, Panchkula, won the gold in the under 40 kg category in the Inter School District Karate Competition held at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula. Vishal of Satluj Public School bagged the gold in u-14 boys category in the inter School District Judo championship.

Results: U-14 (Boys): Vishal (gold); Jaskirat (silver); Simranjit, Harinder, Jaskirat, Lakhwinder, Harkesh, Anmol (bronze).

U-17 (boys): Sanjeev, Rahul, Karan (silver); Vishal, Vinay, Salesh, Honey (bronze). — TNS
