Children’s camp held
: The Bharat Vikas Parishad, Batala branch, organised a children’s check-up camp at the local eye hospital here on Sunday. The camp was organised under the guidance of a team of doctors led by Dr N.K. Anand, Head of the Paediatric Department of Medical College, Amritsar. About 250 patients were examined.

HOSHIARPUR
Drug peddler arrested
: The Dasuya police has arrested a drug peddlar, Amarjit Singh, son of Gurbachan Singh of Bhatti and seized 27 gram of smack and 15 gram of opium from him. Two cases under Sections, 21, 61 and 85 and Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act, respectively, have been registered against him.

Body found: The body of Sukhwinder Singh, alias Ravi, son of Butti Ram of Bhunga was found in the fields on the Bhunga-Kuttan road on Sunday. According to police sources, it was suspected that Sukhwinder Singh who was an addict died due to an overdose of drug.

Chetna march staged: To motivate youths against the ill-effects of drug addiction and female foeticide, activists of the BJP led by Mr Avinash Rak Khanna, MP and BJP chief, Punjab, and Mr Bharat Bhushan Verma, state president, Rashtriya Vikas Party, staged a chetna march in the main bazar on Sunday.

Appointments
: Mr Sukhwinder Singh Kotli and Mr D. William have been appointed the General Secretary and State Committee Members respectively of the Punjab unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party. The appointments have been made by Mr Narinder Kashyap, In-charge of BSP (Punjab Affairs) in consultation with Mr Avtaar Singh Karimpuri, the State President of the party, a press release said.

Suvidha Camp
: District administration will hold a Suvidha Camp at the Old Grain Market here on Wednesday, a press release said. Residents of ward numbers 5,12 and 22 have been asked get their works, related to issuance of learning licence, mutation, widow and old aged pension, ration cards, done on the spot.

Two held: District police on Sunday arrested one Baljeet Singh from Mohalla Jat  Pura and one Rajinder Singh from Ucha Thara and recovered five gm of smack from  their possession. An FIR under section 21,62,65 of NDPS Act has been registered.

Illicit liquor recovered: Subhanpur police recovered 4500 ml of illicit liquor from the possession of one Ashok Kumar of Mohalla Baljot Nagar in Kartarpur during patrolling on Sunday. An FIR under sections 61/1/14 of excise act was registered against him. District police had recovered several thousands ML of illicit liquor from ten persons in different parts a day before yesterday. Separate FIRs were lodged against those persons under relevant sections of excise act at concerned police stations.

Team installed
: A function to install office-bearers of the district unit of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) was held here on Sunday. The team, Dr Ashwani Dhir (president), Dr Bela Kakaria, Dr Neetu Gupta (vice-presidents), Dr Rakesh Chopra (secretary), Dr Amandeep Singh (joint secretary) and Dr Gurpal Arora (treasurer), was installed.

Pollution check-up camp
: A pollution check-up camp was organised here on Monday. Ms Amita Sharma, wife of local MLA Ashok Sharma, inaugurated the camp. Mr Baljit Singh, project chairman of the camp, said 180 vehicles were checked at the camp and free pollution cards were given to the owners of the vehicles.

Police remand
: In the Narinder Arora murder case in which a local plywood dealer was shot dead here on March 17 by members of a gang of criminals for not paying Rs 50 lakh extortion money, the district police has arrested Harjinder, alias Fauji and obtained his 7-day police remand from the court of Ms Bimlesh Tanwar here. 

Judicial custody: A local court has sent two youths of Siwan in 14-days’ judicial custody for their alleged involvement in raping a minor girl on June 15 at Siwan.

NURPUR
BJP’s demonstration
: Activists of the local unit of the BJP led by former MLA Rakesh Pathania held a demonstration here on Monday in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities. They raised slogans against the state government and held a procession in the town. The demonstrators also held rally in front of the office of the SDM. A memorandum was given to the Governor of the state through the SDM, criticising the government’s failure to check price rise of essential commodities.

Science seminar: A block-level science seminar was organised at the BTC Girls Senior Secondary School here on Monday on the topic of “Conservation of diversity prospects and concerns.” Students of six government schools participated in the seminar. Suman of the BTC school, Nurpur, Deepika of Senior Secondary School, Bhadwar, and Jyoti of Government High School, Jassur, were declared first, second and third.
