Mani Majra lad in Indian U-19 team
Chandigarh, June 19 “Everybody is having great expectations from me and I hope to perform well and live up to their expectations. I have been working hard on my game particularly the line and length while bowling. It is a great opportunity that has come my way and I will prove my worth,” said strong-minded Amanpreet. This fast pace bowler from Punjab (north zone) caught the selectors’ fancy during the Hemu Adhikari Trophy held at Bangalore from May 27 to June 14. He has to his credit 11 wickets in two matches played against south zone and west zone. A student of plus two in Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula, Amanpreet started playing cricket at a tender age of nine and participated in various tournaments. This 6 feet 3 inches tall fast pacer has been representing Punjab state under-17 team and was selected out of 25 probables to represent Punjab in Hemu Adhikari Trophy held at Bangalore last year also. Incidentally, he claimed 11 wickets then also. He is the first cricketer from the Satluj Cricket Academy to represent India in any international tournament. Taking it as a learning curve, Aman maintains that he didn’t feel any pressure while playing with the senior players. Quite humble, Amanpreet is indebted to his coach, Bharti Vij at PCA, Mohali, under whose guidance he is honing his skills to match the standards of Australian fast bowler Dennis Lilee and all rounder Kapil Dev. He does not forget to pay regards to his parents and brother who is a cricket coach with Satluj Cricket Academy. “Credit also goes to my parents and brother who is a mental trainer for me in any difficult situation,’’ said Amanpreet. |
