Two stabbed to death at Civil Hospital
Samrala, June 2
Two persons of Muteon village, including its sarpanch, were stabbed to death in a ward of the local Civil Hospital last night when they tried to broker peace between two groups of the village that had clashed earlier yesterday.

IMA finally splits on quota issue

The proposed reservation for OBC’s in professional courses, which led to a nationwide agitation during the past three weeks, has also caused deep fissures in the ranks of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to the extent that the state branch has witnessed a vertical split.

Clerk indicted in forgery case

The District Attorney here has recommended legal action against a clerk of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, who was allegedly caught seeking relief of Rs 2 lakh by falsely claiming her husband as a victim of 1984 riots.

Fresh suggestions sought on proposed Pohir bypass
Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 2
Following the demand raised by residents of the town and surrounding villages for review of the proposed bypass at Pohir village on Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, the Punjab Roads and Bridges Development Board (PRBDB) authorities have sought fresh suggestions from the residents of the area.

SKD slates Cong on relief to terror-hit

Sarpanch suspended
Khanna, June 2
The Joint Director (Village Development), Punjab, has ordered the suspension of Dharam Singh, sarpanch of Malakpur under the Khanna block.Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Khanna, has also been advised to arrange to take the charge of the record and property and hand over the same to an authorised panch.

One injured in land dispute
Jagraon, June 2
Harjit Singh of Kania Hussai, Bhupinder Singh of Ghunewal, Harjinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh of Gorsian Khan Mohammad allegedly assaulted Zora Singh of Gorsian Khan Mohamad with sharp-edged weapons and injured him. Zora has been admitted to the Civil Hospital. The Sidhwanbet police has registered a case under Sections 323, 342, 356, 506, 34, IPC. Some land dispute is said to be the reason behind the incident. No arrest has been made so far.
